リュウガンはランナー土着のものであるが、
その栽培は20世紀始めにダラピロム妃によってもたらされたものである。
リュウガンはチーク伐採後の栄養が不足した土壌でも育ち、
中国の需要もあったので、この紹介は賢明であった。

カリオタ・ウレンス（Caryota urens）が密集している。
新しい図書館の窓から見えるものが欲しい」。
そこで、カリオタ・ウレンスの代わりに、
よく知られた品種のデュランタ（Duranta erecta）を植えました。
この南米原産の植物は、私たちが1000種近くの植物を比較してきた
ドクマイ庭園で最も蝶を引き寄せる植物です。
成長が早く、一年中花を咲かせることが重要な特徴です。

680種の花をつける庭園の植物のなかでも、
英語名(黄金の露 しずく)と呼ばれるこの植物は、
特に蝶のお気に入りである。
この蝶を取り巻きにもつ南アメリカからやってきた
外来種のスーパースターは、意外にも非常に控えめな植物である。
栄養素の乏しいやせた土壌でも育ち、乾燥にも強く、
一年を通してたくさんの青い花を付ける。
成長が早く、挿し木でも簡単に繁殖できる。
または、小さな樹木のように刈り込むこともできる。

タイ固有のタイヨウチョウの愛（Firmiana colorata、アオイ科）
も1本植えました。生垣から木のように成長し、
蜜を求めてやってくる鳥を引き寄せる赤い花を咲かせます。
この成長が早く美しいジャングルの木をタイの庭園で
見たことはありませんが、もっと植えるべきだと思います。

タイ北部の乾燥したモンスーン林（ジャングル）
に生える見事な樹木は、フィルミアナ・コロラタです。
裸の枝に真っ赤な花を咲かせ、3月に見ることができます。
これらの花は、人間にとっても蜜を食べる鳥にとっても同様に魅力的です。
