Sauber's Kamui Kobayashi absolutely delighted Japanese race fans at Suzuka on Sunday, repaying thousands – who had put up with the miserable weather of 24 hours previous – to finish seventh courtesy of some superb passing.
From 14th on the grid, Kobayashi avoided the drama of the first lap before discovering a new favourite passing place at the hairpin, where he overhauled Jaime Alguersuari (twice, with contact made between the cars on both occasions) plus Rubens Barrichello and team-mate Nick Heidfeld after his late-race pit-stop.
